How To Complete a Merit Badge

Earning merit badges is fund and easy.   It is also an integral part of Star, Life, and Eagle advancement.   Scouts can work as individuals or in groups to complete merit badges.   There are 6 simple steps to earning a merit badge

  1. Decide which merit badge you want to earn.  You can see the requirements for each merit badge on the following web site. US Scouting Service Merit Badge Site

  2. Ask your scoutmaster for a merit badge card.  It is your responsibility to get the card, have your progress recorded on the card, and turn the card into our advancement coordinator when it is complete.

  3. Get a copy of the merit badge book.  We have a troop library with many books, most public libraries have them, and the are available at scout stores

  4. Find a counselor for the merit badge that you want to work on.  If you need phone numbers or if you want to do a merit badge that we don't have a troop counselor for email meritbadge@troop368.com or ask a leader

  5. Contact the counselor and make arrangements to work on the requirements

  6. Upon completion of the requirements, have the counselor and your scoutmaster sign the merit badge card.   Give the proper part to the troop advancement coordinator, and save the rest for your records.

This is a list of our Troop 368 Merit Badge Counselors.  If you need a counselor for a merit badge that is not listed ask a scout leader or committee member.

Merit Badge Counselors

We need Merit Badge Counselors !!   Earning Merit Badges is an exciting and important part of the scouting experience.    Before a scout can start working on a Merit Badge he needs two things:  a merit badge card signed by his Scoutmaster and a Merit Badge Counselor.  The Merit Badge Counselor's role is to guide and review the work that the boys do and insure that they satisfy the requirements of the badge. For more information about  what merit badge counselors do click here.

The process of becoming a merit badge counselor is as easy as 1-2-3.   First, select subject areas that you would feel comfortable teaching or counseling (click here for list).   Second, complete the merit badge counselor application form (click here for the form).  Third, if you are not a registered adult member of BSA you will need to fill out an adult registration form (click here for the form).  Oh...I guess there is a fourth thing.....drop the completed forms in the troop mailbox.
